Special Educational Needs

I believe that all young people and parents experience very similar issues and need support, and if I can find a way to work with you I will.  Some of the clients I have worked with successfully have diagnoses of:

  • Autistic Spectrum Disorders including Pathological Demand Avoidance and Aspergers
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and other processing disorders
  • ADHD

Some challenges are specific to a child's condition, such as anxiety around communication, tiredness during exams, time management, self-regulation and so many others. Children with SEN also experience the same issues as other people; sleep problems, stress and anxiety, lack of confidence and phobias for example. There are also general childhood problems which may respond well to hypnosis, such as bed wetting, , nervous tics and habits and the dreaded exam nerves.  My aim is to deal with the immediate presenting problem in the best way for your child, and equip them with tools which will last a lifetime.  If you are not sure if I can help, just ask.

Please note that I cannot change your child’s SEN, but will aim to teach them unique skills which help them to cope on a daily bases or to overcome non- condition related issues.

Parents

As a parent of a child with SEN, you may have been coping with a challenging child from day one.  This can create such high levels of stress that you no longer know how to relax, which in turn can create friction in relationships, lack of self-esteem and many other negative effects.  Supporting you through hypnotherapy and coaching can have a hugely beneficial effect on your whole life, so even if we decide I cannot work with your child, I would like the opportunity to increase your ability to cope with the challenges you face on a daily basis. Suitability for treatment

I mainly work with children who are in mainstream education as due to the nature of hypnosis there is a reasonable level of understanding and interaction required. Generally, if your child is mature enough to have a sense of their own identity and is able to focus on and understand the process, and communicate effectively with me then hypnotherapy is probably viable.  I am unable to work with children who are diagnosed with or demonstrate symptoms of psychosis, such a s personality disorders, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, etc.

If, following an initial assessment, we decide hypnotherapy and/or NLP is appropriate for your child, then I will seek consent where appropriate to work alongside any other support to achieve the best possible results.
